American Spaces Philippines celebrated the US Independence Day and the Filipino-American Friendship Day

The American Spaces in the Philippines celebrated the Declaration of US Independence and the Friendship day between the Philippines and the United States through a series of activities including exhibits, film viewing, lectures, storytelling sessions and outreach programs to the community.

To commemorate the Filipino-American Friendship Day, the Thomas Jefferson Information Center organized a lecture emphasized the opportunities of Filipinos to study in the United States through the United States Institutes (SUSI) program of the Department of State. Seventeen students from the De La Salle University Manila American Studies (AMSTUD) organization attended the open forum discussion from invited 2011 SUSI program exchange students namely, Angelita Adajar Bombarda and Anne Mimille Briones Guzman. The forum was followed by embassy tour which gave the students an opportunity to know more about the historical relationship of the United States and the Philippines.


Caption 2: The American Corner Manila created a ‘Freedom Wall’ which aimed to share their thoughts freely to commemorate the significance of the declaration of the US Independence




Caption 3: The American Corner Baguio displayed an exhibit featuring Americans who made significant contributions in the development of Baguio City to become the Summer Capital of the Philippines.


Caption 4: The American Corner Batac featured four videos explaining the American Independence namely, “I am America”, “Fireworks A heritage in celebrating Independence”, “Disney America: Welcome”, and July 4 Fireworks: Independence Day Is”. The AC Director also had a brief talk about the US Independence Day.


Caption 5: The American Corner Cagayan de Oro had a film showing at Xavier Ecoville, Lumbia Cagayan de Oro to observe the Filipino-American Friendship Day. The program also includes Hotdog Eating Contest; Kindle Application Contest, Spelling Bee and donation of books and souvenirs to the students



Caption 6: The American Corner Davao, in partnership with the International Studies Department of the Ateneo de Davao University had a film showing and open forum discussion on the movie entitiled “The Patriot”



Caption 7: The American Corner Dumaguete had a film viewing and trivia contest on US Independence Day. The students utilized the eLibraryUSA and printed resources of the corner to look for the answers to the trivia questions.


Caption 8: The American Corner Iloilo celebrated the 4th of July through a community outreach at the Jaro Day Care Center. The AC Staff conducted storytelling session and donated books to the children.



Caption 9: The American Corner Marawi organized a community outreach program entitled “Kiddie Independence Day” to Tambo Central School and Iligan City East High School. The AC Staff introduced the American History to the children.
