Eighteen professors from Philippine Normal University visited U.S. Embassy's Thomas Jefferson Information Center to learn more about how to use eLibraryUSA online databases of the library particularly resources pertaining to humanities and social sciences.

American Shelves Roadshow at National Library of the Phil.


The PAS Thomas Jefferson Information Center staff visited the National Library of the Philippines, one of 33 American Shelf (AS) institutions in the Philippines. About 30 public librarians attended the Thomas Jefferson Information Center (TJIC) briefing session and the TJIC Director Gianina Cabanilla and Associate Randolf Mariano introduced the eLibraryUSA, the digital library of the U.S. Embassy to enhance programs and activities that will promote diplomacy between the Philippines and the United States . Participants showed great interest in the interface of TJIC's online resources

TJIC introduced ELL programs and resources to UE students



English studies major students from the University of the East visited the Thomas Jefferson Information Center on January 28 to learn about English language programs and resources at the center. The students enjoyed tons of English Language learning resources from American English at State website and eLibraryUSA, TJIC's digital library.

The cost of living and studying varies across the United States.  Each year international students receive significant amounts of financial assistance toward their studies.  A panel of graduate school admissions representatives will provide insight on scholarships and other financial aid opportunities to reduce the costs of studying in the U.S.



Thomas Jefferson Library at Santa Mesa Manila - Throwback Thursday




In 1963, from Padre Faura, Manila, the Thomas Jefferson Library moved in a 4-storey building at Ramon Magsaysay Blvd., Sta. Mesa, Manila. During this time, the goal of the Thomas Jefferson Library is not only to support research needs of the Filipino people but also to showcase American culture and society through cultural events, performances and film showing. TJL alloted 2 floors of the building to exhibit American music and multimedia room and TJL mini theater for cultural performances.

“West Wing” TV screening builds understanding of the State of the Union Address




On January 13, the TJIC hosted a screening of the U.S. TV series “The West Wing.” The episode’s storyline included the president falling ill while preparing for the State of the Union address. TJIC associates moderated a discussion afterwards where students from the University of the Philippines discussed the functions of the White House staff and the tradition and history of the State of the Union address. The discussion also enhanced understanding of cultural diversity in American society.

TJIC Spotlights IIP Publications at Philippine Military Academy






PAS’ American Spaces-Thomas Jefferson Information Center donated 35 IIP Publications and Library Supplies re U.S Ambassador to the Philippines Philip Goldberg’s visit at Philippine Military Academy, the Philippines’ preeminent military leadership development institution, to promote USG publications and to strengthen our partnership with the PMA American Learning Resource Center Library. PMA is one of the Embassy’s 33 American Shelf partners and this is the first year that the American Spaces TJIC is hosting the American Shelves Roadshow Event. PMA is one of and one of the 33 American Shelf (AS) partner institutions and PAS Manila has donated IIP Publications and Library Supplies to PMA library since 2006. During the turn-over ceremony, PMA library prepared separate tables to display the U.S. Embassy donated publications and supplies and about 100 cadet students and officers participated in the turn-over ceremony.

American Shelf Road Show Reinforces Partnership with Baguio City




The PAS Thomas Jefferson Information Center staff visited the Baguio City Public Library, one of 33 American Shelf (AS) institutions in the Philippines. About 40 librarians, professors and employees attended the Thomas Jefferson Information Center (TJIC) briefing session and the TJIC staff introduced the US Embassy website, EducationUSA website, TJIC's Education USA student advising service, eLibraryUSA database, PAS TJIC youth outreach programs, and also promote the Baguio American Corner for students who are searching for information about the United States. Participants showed great interest in the function of the U.S. Embassy, our resources and various public diplomacy activities. #americanshelf #amshelfroadshow

Happy 29th Anniversary American Corner Batac




On March 1951, the United States Information Service (USIS) the former name of the Thomas Jefferson Information Center established regional USIS libraries at Northern Luzon area particularly in Laoag and Tuguegarao to promote books and reading materials about the United States with a total collection of 8,653 materials and eventually after two years of operation, both USIS were ceased.

On January 14, 1985, the United States Information Service reopened one of its American Corner at Mariano Marcos State University, Batac, Ilocos region.

Thank you Mariano Marcos State University for your continued support  in promoting open access library and information exchange between the Philippines and the United States and more years of continued partnership and friendship.


Happy 29th Anniversary American Corner Batac.

2015-2016 Fulbright Program for Graduate Studies



The U.S. Department of State and the Philippine-American Educational Foundation (PAEF) announce the launching of the competition for the 2015-16 Fulbright Graduate Student Program. The scholarships are granted competitively to Filipinos who wish to study at the graduate level (Master’s or Ph.D.) or pursue non-degree doctoral enrichment or doctoral dissertation research in the United States. Grantees must return to the Philippines immediately upon completion of their program in the US.
Application period for the 2015-2016 Fulbright competition is from December 9, 2013 to March 24, 2014.

This year, House Speaker John Boehner has invited President Barack Obama to deliver his 2014 State of the Union address on January 28, 2014.
