TJIC launches the Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on Video Games and Learning

Seventy-nine students and educators from various universities in Metro Manila and American Corners in the Philippines participated the Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) kick off meeting about Video Games and Learning on Tuesday, September 24, 2013. The Thomas Jefferson Information Center (TJIC) Team taught the ways to utilize the online course platform and gave a brief background on the impact of gaming culture in school’s curriculum and instruction. In addition, Professor Ruth Alido of Philippine Normal University, a Fulbright alumnus, shared her MOOC experiences in the United States to the participants. The kick off ceremony was a great success in introducing students to open education and distance learning opportunities in the United States.

Renewal of partnership with the American Corner at Silliman University

Center visited American Corner
Dumaguete to give an information literacy presentation to undergraduate students, librarians and
professors at Silliman University. The visit also gave way to the signing of the Memorandum of
Understanding between the U.S. Embassy and the
Silliman University.

Princess Grace Wooden, Thomas Jefferson Information Center Deputy
Director visited American Corner Cagayan De Oro on September 11 and 12 and
conduct a round table discussion with the American Corner Staff and American
Corner Support Group. The visit also gave way to the signing of the Memorandum
of Understanding between the U.S. Embassy and the Xavier University.
