MOOCs Advances PAS' Goals to Promote Studying in the US





On December 9, 2013, as an ongoing effort of the U.S. Embassy’s promotion of study in the United States, Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the U.S. Embassy hosted the first Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) Grraduation Ceremony with Filipino college students and professionals. TJIC and PAS staffers, and the student participants and professionals celebrated together their accomplishment of attending MOOCs classes, and shared their experiences on distance learning through MOOCs. 75 students and professionals out of 108 original participants (69.44%) completed their participation in the MOOCs pilot program about "Video Games and Learning" that began September 24, 2013, which is 8 times higher than the average retention rate in an online learning program. At the end of the ceremony, all the successful participants were awarded certificates of appreciation from the Thomas Jefferson Information Center

DVC of the Week: Angry Birds and the Physics of Games



We would like to invite everyone to participate in a lecture and discussion about the science of video games entitled " ANGRY BIRDS AND THE PHYSICS OF GAMES" on December 5, 2013 at 7:30 P.M (Manila Time)

Yes, you're right! He's the creator of the world's popular game called Angry Birds, Mr. Peter Vesterbacka.

The DVC is for FREE, all you need is an internet connection to view and participate to the lecture. Definitely, this will be a great opportunity for us Filipinos to engage with other students and professionals who are into gaming
